No Story Too Small – Amy Johnson Crow’s challenge of 52 Ancestors this year, has been the inspiration to writing up my family history stories.
George LEA, my 3rd great grandfather, was born 14 November 1823 at Ormskirk, Lancashire. His father was George LEA a Shoe Maker and his mother was Ellen MONK.
George was one of nine children.
On the 1851 census recorded on March 30, George is age 27, an unmarried Hair Dresser living with his older sister Mary LEA 31.
Later that year, on the 1st of December 1851, George LEA married Agnes CARTLEDGE at St Pauls Church in Liverpool.
Their first child George LEA arrived October 10 1852, followed by daughter Jane on 9th March 1854, the John on 22 December 1855, daughter Mary Ellen was born 11 November 1857. And daughter Agnes Emma came March 4, 1860. All children were born in Ormskirk.
The 1861 census has George and Agnes with their children and Agnes’ parents Peter CARTLEDGE 59, Agnes CARTLEDGE 57 and her brother Peter 17. It must have been quite a household.
George LEA died on the 15th of May 1864 at Ormskirk from Phthisis – he was only 42.
