#27 Thomas COKER – 52 Ancestor Challenge

No Story Too Small – Amy Johnson Crow’s challenge of 52 Ancestors this year, has been the inspiration to writing up my family history stories.

My 2 times great grandfather Thomas COKER was baptized 24 July 1825 at Ugborough, Devon; the son of William & Betty.

On the 26 June 1846 at Ugborough, he married Eliza SMALLRIDGE.

They had a daughter Mary Anne later that year; then son Thomas in 1850, daughter Elizabeth in 1851 and son James in 1854. Both James and his mother Eliza died in childbirth.

 

Thomas COKER then married on the 17 February 1855 at the Register Office in Totnes to Eliza ANDREWS.

Their first daughter Emma was baptized 20 April 1856 at Ugborough, Devon.

On the 23 May 1858 they baptized Charlotte who died age two months.

On April 17 1860 they baptized their next daughter as Charlotte.

Their son James was baptized 18 August.

Daughter Alice Coker was baptized 26 Mar 1865

Daughter Carry was baptized 14 February 1869

Son Richard James COKER was baptized 7 January 1872.

Thomas COKER died May 17 1879 from typhoid fever.

 

#26 – Eliza ANDREWS – 52 Ancestors Challenge

No Story Too Small – Amy Johnson Crow’s challenge of 52 Ancestors this year, has been the inspiration to writing up my family history stories.

My 2 times great grandmother Eliza ANDREWS was baptized 14 February 1830 at North Huish, Devon; as Eliza d/o Robert & Mary ANDREWS abode Kingwells Cottages father a Labourer.

On the 1841 census taken 6 June 1841 at Malborough, Devon; she is listed as Eliza ANDREWS age 11 b Devon, a Female Servant on the RYDER farm, with (brother) Samuel ANDREWS 12, Wm PENGILLY 11, John POLYBLANK 13, Wm MARCH 20, Christopher SAUL 25 & Richd SAUL 20.

She married Thomas COKER on the 17 February 1855 at the Register Office in Totnes.

Their first daughter Emma was baptized 20 April 1856 at Ugborough, Devon.

On the 23 May 1858 they baptized Charlotte who died age two months.

On April 17 1860 they baptized their next daughter as Charlotte.

Their son James was baptized 18 August.

Daughter Alice Coker was baptized 26 Mar 1865

Daughter Carry was baptized 14 February 1869

Son Richard James Coker was baptized 7 January 1872

The 1881 census shows Eliza COKER 56, as a widow, a charwoman with daughter Charlotte 21 and son Richard 9.

The 1891 census shows Eliza COKER living on her own means, with her son in law Thomas RADFORD 40, daughter Elizabeth 40, grandson Richard John 11, granddaughter Emily Ida 58 and William RADFORD 21.

Eliza COKER died December 3, 1891 at Swansea.
